Meet my new book “You Are Not Bonkers” ⬆️⬆️⬆️
Well hello! How are you? I hope that you are enjoying the run up to Christmas 😬🎄🎅🏼
If you don’t know already, I’ve written a book which I’d love to share more about here.
“You Are Not Bonkers” is a guided journal and symptom tracker to help women who are going through the menopause figure out what the flip is going on and what to do about it.
I don’t know if you ever have this but sometimes I get an idea that is just bursting to come out of me. In her book “Big Magic” Elizabeth Gilbert talks about how ideas find their way to us. If we act on them, they become ours and if we don’t, they go and find someone else. Well this idea came to me and I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that I needed to bring it to life.
Although writing the book came easily to me, talking about it is a different matter, so I’m going to focus on how I’m hoping that it will help other women.
My aim was to create a place for women to record what was going on in their bodies, and in their minds, whilst going through the menopause and ultimately, in just a few pages, to consolidate their observations.
This would allow someone to look at those few pages and to go “Oh, hang on a minute, I think there’s something here that’s a little bit wonky – a little bit out of sorts – and I need to do something about it.”
At the same time it was important that it was lighthearted, compassionate, informative, (hopefully) amusing and enlightening. I also needed to provide insight as to what women might like to write about on the journaling pages, which involved me sharing quite a lot about myself too. Scary stuff!
So in essence it’s a combination of:
- something that will make you snigger (luckily I have funny friends who helped me with this 😊)
- a place to journal (along with example, completed journaling pages)
- weekly and monthly symptom trackers (which have been reviewed and approved by a leading Consultant Gynaecologist)
- suggestions, split into categories, as to activities, therapies and ideas that might help you to feel better
- a supporting pdf of additional resources (support organisations, books, podcasts, exercise gurus, remedies and advice from others) to help you further
- all bound up in blue leopard print (just because it’s pretty).
In time I hope to publish the book with different coloured covers. I would also like to publish books of additional, stand alone, journaling pages for when people have completed the first book.
There are a lot of moving parts to self publishing a book and I’m so happy that it’s now out there. I’m also eternally grateful to the lovely ladies who have left such kind reviews on Amazon. It’s alway difficult to know how your work will be received, so it’s a great relief to find that people are finding it helpful.
Mr G, who is a man of few, but wise, words had this to say about it: “It’s very good. You should be really proud of it. I’d be happy if I’d written something like that. All men should read it.”
I hope that I am on the right track with You Are Not Bonkers. My gut tells me that I am and Mr G seems to think so, which is a start.
You Are Not Bonkers is on Amazon HERE in hardback, HERE in paperback and HERE in the kindle version. The link that you need to get the free 16 page pdf is on page 414 of the book.
If you buy the book and love it, I would be SO incredibly grateful if you could leave a review. It will just help Amazon’s algorithm to make it more visible, meaning that I can help more women. And that’s what it’s all about.
Much love as ever.
