So here’s the thing…!
What I’ve noticed over the years is that we’re happy to spend more on outfits for “special occasions” – such as weddings, christenings and big birthday parties – and I get that, really I do. I mean they’re not called “special” for nothing.
But what about the every day? That’s really where we really should be committing our pennies because that way the cost of per wear of our items is low and our enjoyment of them is high. It also means that we don’t have to wear the same gym gear day after day, after day!
If those same pieces can also be dressed up for the evening, even better!
Anyway, I digress!
In this post I thought that it would be nice to do a walk through a metaphorical summer’s day “wearing” some new pieces from Baukjen.
I decided to start with this gorgeous tiered Harriet Organic Skirt (£109) which I thought would be great first thing in the morning, when it’s a little chillier. Let’s imagine that we’re doing breakfast out with friends. How does that sound? And how great would this tiered skirt be? It’s perfect with the white tee and jacket as shown above but it would also lend itself to a denim jacket, or a blazer.
By the time we’ve chatted, put the world to rights, laughed and done the obligatory taking 20 minutes to leave the cafe because we can’t find our glasses/need the loo/don’t know how the app works to pay, it’s 11am….
…and it’s getting warm. Really warm. Which means it’s time to go home and waft around the garden admiring, and picking, the flowers that are looking so beautiful. Which is where this gorgeous Alyssa dress (£149) comes in. With its self tie shoulder straps, which will make it so comfortable, plus its handy pockets and lightweight voile fabric, it’s perfect for wafting in (and for dozing in under an umbrella, should the wafting feel too strenuous!)
On the other hand, if a wider strap and bolder print are more your sort of thing, the Bianca short dress (£139) would be perfect for a hot day. And there’s also the added bonus that the Bianca print also comes in a sleeveless blouse, a short sleeved blouse and a midi dress. Both the short sleeved blouse and the midi dress are available for rent and they’re made of Baukjen’s sustainable Lenzing Ecovero fabric. So if you love this print, there’s likely to be an option that works for you.
OK, so after the wafting around the garden for the afternoon – let’s move on to the thought of early evening drinks with friends. I think I’ll wear…
… the Mae top (£59) It’s the perfect top for early evening drinks. It has such a great depth of colour and is a really flattering shape in the way that it falls over over the tummy area and is then anchored in at the hips with a wide band. It also comes with a built in shelf bra and is again made from lenzing ecovero jersey, so it ticks the sustainability box a treat.
With white jeans this top is summer fresh but it would work equally well with traditional blue denim, or a cropped palazzo pant.
You know how early evening drinks lead to food….and chatting…and music? Well finally, after everyone has gone home…
…it’s time for some quiet time with a box set and a cup of mint tea. And there’s nothing nicer than relaxing in style (rather than those old pjs that we’ve had since we were at University). The peace lyocell cropped trousers (£59) and the peace lyocell tee (£39) are the perfect way to round off a beautiful summer’s day in style.
I’d love to know what you think. Which pieces would you choose for your day in the sun?!
