I knew that I was off to chapel this morning to hear our son sing. (Despite inviting me to go along, I was under strict instructions to sit where he couldn’t see me – and preferably behind him!) After that I was going into town to finish shopping for tomorrow night’s style event and then I had a meeting.
Whilst I didn’t need to be full on smart, I needed to up my game a little so wore this Boden spotted coat which I have had for 9 or 10 years. After wearing it a lot when new, I stopped wearing it after a few years and realised, when trying it on last winter, that the length was wrong. So this summer when I had some time to think about my Wardrobe, I took it to be shortened and here it is, having had its “make-over”.
Although it looks slightly longer it is in fact knee length, which now makes it great to wear with both trousers and dresses.
I wore it with blue Gap cords, Zara boots, H&M jumper with the sparkly sleeves and a blue H&M shirt. A real high street outfit (apart from the LK Bennett bag but that was a Bicester purchase).
After giving a journalist an interview this afternoon, I will be off to London next week for a photo shoot and another upcoming article in the Daily Mail. I’ll let you know when it’s due out (just in case anyone would rather not buy it that day)!
I have that very same coat Beth, and seeing your blog post has inspired me to dig it out and wear it! Love your blogs, keep 'em coming! Kate
Hi Kate – would love to see a photo when you have dug your spotty coat out! I think that Boden would like to see it too!
Lovely coat – such fun and one of my favourite colours. Can't wait to read your next article in the mail; enjoy your trip to London glamour-puss 🙂
Hi! Thank you! I will let you know when it is due out. Yes, looking forward to London – I think that I have been down there more in the last year than in the previous 12 years!
Wow – fame beckons – looking forward to hearing all about your photo shoot / Daily Mail exploits! The coat is still looking good – it's really worth hanging onto things sometimes. Admire your organisation in getting it altered too. Where did you get the alterations done – do you have a handy dressmaker, or did you use a high street outlet?
Hi – I will fill you in on all the details as soon as I am able to! My organisation at getting the coat altered isn't that impressive – I meant to do it last winter! We have a local dry cleaners/alterations place that I use and they are really good.
I have just dropped off a huge bag of clothes to my little lady to do some alterations for me … amongst them is an old winter coat about 10 years old which I'm having chopped up to just above my knee. Waste not, want not.The Zara boots look good. And look forward to reading the article in the Daily Mail when it comes out.
Hi Sue – like the sound of the alterations/chopping! It sounds like you are about to get a whole new wardrobe. The Zara boots are really useful – a go with anything kind of boot. I will let you all know when the article is due out (or maybe when I have read it first!)
The coat looks tres chic! I love those Gap cords. Can you tell me what size they are? We are a similar size but I'm not sure what to go for as the US sizing always throws me!
Hi Rachel – sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. These cords are snug little babies so I went up to a 28 in them. Whether you need to go up a size will depend, I think, on whether you are near to the top end of your size or the bottom end of your size -if that makes sense! I was pushing it a little already in a 26! They are lovely and comfortable so worth a try.
Loving this coat. The spots are very 2012 so well done you for holding onto it. I am thinking of hacking a Burberry raincoat as it is the wrong length if I ever get round to it and it's a success I'll let you know. Hope the singing went well (did you dress conspicuously on purpose?!) Michelle
You know, it was only after you asked whether I meant to dress conspicuously that I realised that I had. My poor children! Burberry raincoats can come up a funny length can't they? I tried one in Bicester in the summer and felt the same. Let me know whether you are brave enough to go for the chop!
